Pulse for Sound Awareness ("Pulse," "we," "us," or "our") is a sound-awareness application for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. This Privacy Policy explains how Pulse handles information when you use the app.
1. Information We Collect
Pulse is designed to process audio entirely on your device.
We do not collect, transmit, or store on our servers:
- Audio recordings
- Voice recordings
- Speech transcripts
- Your name or nicknames entered into Pulse
- Sound detection history
- Your location
- Contacts, photos, calendar information, or health information
- Advertising identifiers or other identifiers used for tracking
- Analytics about how you use Pulse
Pulse does not require an account or login.
2. On-Device Audio Processing
Pulse uses your device's microphone to detect sounds and other audio events that you choose to monitor.
Audio is processed locally on your device using Apple's on-device technologies and Pulse's sound-detection functionality. Pulse does not upload your microphone audio to our servers.
Audio data used for detection is processed temporarily and is not intentionally stored as a permanent audio recording by Pulse.
If speech recognition is enabled, Pulse may temporarily process spoken audio on your device to identify relevant words or phrases. This information is not transmitted to us or stored as a searchable transcript by Pulse.
3. Information Stored on Your Device
Pulse may store your preferences locally on your device, including:
- Your name or nicknames
- Enabled sound categories
- Alert preferences
- Haptic preferences
- Detection sensitivity
- Other app settings
This information remains on your device and is not transmitted to us.
Deleting Pulse removes its locally stored app data according to Apple's normal iOS data-management behavior.
4. Permissions
Pulse may request the following permissions:
Microphone
Required for Pulse's sound-awareness features. Microphone access allows Pulse to analyze surrounding audio for the sounds you have chosen to monitor.
Speech Recognition
Optional. If enabled, this allows Pulse to use speech recognition to identify relevant spoken words or phrases.
Notifications
Optional. Notifications allow Pulse to alert you when a relevant sound or spoken phrase is detected.
You can change these permissions at any time through your device's Settings.
5. Third-Party Services
Pulse does not use third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking services.
Pulse uses Apple's operating-system frameworks and technologies to provide functionality such as audio processing, machine learning, speech recognition, and notifications.
These technologies operate according to Apple's applicable privacy and security practices.
6. Tracking and Advertising
Pulse does not sell personal information.
Pulse does not use personal information for targeted advertising and does not include third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
7. Data Security
Because Pulse does not transmit your audio or personal information to our servers, we do not maintain a server-side database containing your Pulse audio or usage data.
Information stored locally is protected by the security mechanisms provided by your Apple device and operating system.
8. Children's Privacy
Pulse does not knowingly collect personal information from children or adults because Pulse does not transmit personal information to us.
If you contact us through our support email, we may receive the information contained in that communication solely for the purpose of responding to you.
9. Your Choices
You can:
- Enable or disable microphone access
- Enable or disable speech recognition
- Enable or disable notifications
- Change the sounds and words Pulse monitors
- Change Pulse's alert settings
- Delete Pulse from your device
Because Pulse does not maintain a server-side copy of your audio or locally stored preferences, there is generally no separate account or server-side data to request deletion of.
10. Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights concerning your personal information, including rights to access, correct, or delete information.
Because Pulse does not transmit or maintain personal information about you on our servers, we generally do not possess personal information that can be accessed, corrected, or deleted from our systems.
